Write a cover letter

Answer a few questions and get a short letter in simple words, tied to the job you are applying for. Edit it freely, then copy it or save it as a PDF. No AI is used and nothing leaves your browser.

What this cover letter maker does

You answer a few questions: the job, the company, who you are, your strongest skills, one result you can prove and why you want this company. The tool turns them into a short letter in plain words, and you can change any sentence. It follows fixed rules instead of AI, so the same answers always give the same letter, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Your draft is saved only in this browser.

How long a cover letter should be

Most career offices and recruiters ask for one page, about 250 to 400 words, in three or four short paragraphs. Entry-level letters can be shorter. A letter that only repeats the resume wastes the reader's time, so use it for what the resume cannot say: why this job, why this company, and one result in your own words.

What goes in each paragraph

  • First paragraph: the job you are applying for, who you are in one line, and that you are ready to start.
  • Second paragraph: your strongest skills for this job and one result with a number.
  • Third paragraph: one specific reason you want to work at this company.
  • Optional paragraph: one or two plain sentences about a layoff or a break, if it needs explaining.
  • Last paragraph: a note that your resume is attached, and that you would welcome a short call.

Freshers: a letter, or the email itself

For many jobs in India below manager level, a short email that carries the letter does the same work as an attached one. Some companies and campus portals ask for a separate letter, and some give a text box. Follow what the job post says. If it says nothing, paste the letter as the email body and attach your resume.

If you were laid off or took a break

Say it in one or two sentences and move on to what you can do now. A layoff is widely understood and needs no long explanation. Add what you did in the time since, such as a course, a project or freelance work, and keep the dates the same as on your resume and in your interview answers. You do not need to explain every short gap, and you should not give private reasons you do not want to share.

Your privacy

The letter is written in your browser and your answers are not uploaded. The job post you paste stays in this tab. The only thing recorded is an anonymous event such as "cover letter copied" with the word count, never the text. Read the full privacy page for the details.

What to do next

Common questions

Do I need a cover letter?

Not for every job. Many portals make it optional. A short, specific letter helps most when your resume is thin, when you are changing field, or when you are returning after a break, because it says what the resume cannot.

Should I attach the letter as a PDF or paste it into the email?

Follow the job post. If it gives no instruction, paste the letter as the email body and attach your resume. If a portal has a text box for it, paste plain text there.

How long should a cover letter be?

About one page, between 250 and 400 words for most people, and a little shorter for freshers. This tool tells you when your letter is outside that range.

How do I explain a career gap or a layoff?

In one or two plain sentences: what happened and what you did since. Keep the dates the same as on your resume. Do not apologise, and do not blame a past employer.

Can I send the same letter to every company?

No. Change the job title, the company and the reason you want to work there for each application. The generic parts are the ones recruiters skim past.

Is AI used to write the letter?

No. The letter follows fixed rules and your own answers, so it is instant, private and the same every time. You can edit every line.
